MQH The Happiest Place on Earth
Posted on: Oct 08, 2016
First of all, thanks to all of you for your financial support towards our sign project. I am ecstatic to report that through your generosity we have met our goal and have picked out the most gorgeous sign possible. Now, we are in the process of going through the red tape with Boone County. As we make progress towards the signs completion I will update you as each hurdle is cleared. Once again our anticipated time of completion is sometime near fish fry 2017. Thanks for dreaming big!
On to other things! We kicked off our parish youth group in September, we have 45 Junior High students who signed up for this great adventure. Our first event was a service project with the Sisters of Rose Garden Mission in Covington. We had over twenty students help out that Saturday morning where we first celebrated Mass together. Then we had some donuts and JP Popham and Zach Day and I jammed to some R&B and Hip Hop music as we slowly, I mean slowly, made our way to the parish work day, because Zach wanted me to get stuck at every red light so we could rock longer!
I took Jessica Gruber, Abby Brewer, Janet Cruz and Margaret Gartner back to MQH. We also were jamming to some modern music where I found out that I have a new favorite song, “Can’t stop the feeling” by Justin Timberlake. You just can’t beat this lyric “I got that sunshine in my pocket, Got that good soul in my feet”. LOVE IT!!
I don’t know what it was, but members of my group were always needing direction from the nuns. I can hear the Nuns saying “go outside & pull weeds Abby & Janet” Inside joke!
The very next day we went roller skating at the Fun Dome. It was a great time! We had many bumps and bruises and Deacon Larry made it 2 hours and 10 minutes before falling, and when I fell (thanks to Vincent Croyle) I smashed my elbow, which was bruised for several days.
Then we rapidly put together a day of Go Kart Racing where fourteen of us raced around the track a few times. I believe JP Popham was the champion of the day.
We have many more activities scheduled for each month of the year, pray for our safety, our success and our growth as a youth group community.
At our most recent “Ignite Night” during the Year of Mercy, Walt Mace gave an inspiring talk as he shared his conversion story from no faith, to some faith, to the Catholic faith. Thanks WALT!!!
If you are unaware we will be starting “The Bible Timeline” study this month by Jeff Cavins. It is a lengthy commitment for sure, but it is a commitment you will never regret as you delve deeper into the scriptures and learn about our faith from a biblical point of view. If you are an avid bible reader like me or even if you are a beginner, then the bible timeline is for you. For dates, times and cost check out our parish website.
Lastly we will have a donut social after the 8:30am and 10am mass this October 23rd in the Kindergarten room. Come on and stop by for some donuts, coffee, orange juice and most importantly, stop by for some down home MQH conversation and fellowship.
Remember this quote from Walt Disney “if you can dream it, you can do it”
Until next time, may God bless you all! +
